Deep abdominal breathing, a core element of these practices, is particularly crucial in the relaxation process. This type of breathing has been shown to reduce muscle co-contraction, enhance proprioception and self-awareness, and aid in emotional regulation, which further assists in diminishing muscle co-contraction.
Tassani points out that the inability to relax can lead to a persistent state of tension, manifesting in various psychological and physical issues. One significant observation is that Western culture often lacks the intrinsic connection to these breathing and relaxation techniques, which might explain why many young individuals in the West find it challenging to master breathing control. This cultural gap highlights the importance of integrating such practices to promote better mental and physical health outcomes. Please read the full text here.
