LARNER, PETER WITHMAN

Master Student

I have a BA in Modern Languages (Spanish) and Linguistics from the University of Oxford. My Bachelor's thesis involved a theoretical approach to distinguishing language disorders from cognitive disorders from three different perspectives (genetic, neural and behavioral).

For my master’s thesis at UPF, I am currently working on a project involving accent and language switching in bilinguals. The idea is to examine whether people’s accents change just after they switch languages. Additionally, is this change in accent more pronounced in Parkinson’s patients? At the theoretical level, these changes would indicate that language control processes are not confined to the lexical level, on which most previous studies have focused.

My broader research interests include most aspects of bilingualism, especially as it relates to disorders within the phonetic and phonological domains.
