Rosa Virós, new UPF rector

M. Rosa Virós i Galtier, full professor of Political and Administration Science, was elected UPF rector on 1 June, after getting an absolute majority of votes by the UPF Senate in the first round of voting. Her candidacy received 96 of the 186 votes cast; the other candidate, Albert Carreras de Odriozola, full professor of Economic History and Institutions, obtained 86. Virós, the first female rector of a Catalan university, succeeded Enric Argullol, who had led UPF since its creation in 1990.

When taking possession of the office, during the ceremony held on 27 June at the Mercè buildings, the new rector recalled the principles that inspired the founding project of UPF, and highlighted the need in this new stage to consolidate a university project in which “knowledge excellence” is at the service of “social solidarity, true humanism, and universal Catalan spirit and identity”.
