JAUME I BUILDING
Yesterday: The courtyard of the barrack of Jaume I in 1992, when it was definitively transferred to the UPF. This old military barrack dates from 1888
Today: Once rehabilitated, the Jaume I building on the Ciutadella campus opened in 1996
RAMBLA BUILDING
Yesterday: The Falcon Hotel was built in 1878 on the site of the Rambla, 32. This photo of 1908 shows the atmosphere in the Pla del Teatre, chaired by the statue in honour of playwright Frederic Soler "Pitarra"
Today: The rehabilitation works at Rambla, 32 and the construction of a new building at Rambla, 30 allowed UPF to establish itself in Pla del Teatre in 1991
MERCÈ BUILDING
Yesterday: The buildings housing the Rector’s office were built in 1840. In 1981 the block in front of the Mercè basilica was demolished to set there the present Plaça de la Mercè
Today: The rehabilitation of Mercè, 12 dates from 1993 and the one of Mercè, 10, from 1994. Since then these buildings house the Rector’s office and the UPF headquarters
DOCTOR AIGUADER AND PRBB BUILDINGS
Yesterday: A monumental metallic viaduct connected the Ciutadella Park, the main site of the Universal Exhibition of 1888, and the so-called Maritime Park Section, which housed other smaller pavilions of the Exhibition
Today: The Mar campus consists of two buildings: the Doctor Aiguader building, built for the Olympic Games in 1991 and progressively occupied by UPF since 1998 and, next to it, the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) building, inaugurated in 2006
DIPÒSIT DE LES AIGÜES
Yesterday: Opened in 1884, the Dipòsit de les Aigües soon became a city asylum. In this photo of 1908 you can see some of the orphaned or homeless children who spent the night in the building
Today: New interior of the Dipòsit de les Aigües since the establishment there, in 1999, of the Library and the University Institute of History Jaume Vicens Vives
BALMES BUILDING
Yesterday: The Balmes building in the early years of the 1940s, when it belonged to the Jesuits. It was built in 1927
Today: Balmes after the rehabilitation of the historic building at number 132 and the construction of the new building at number 134. They were inaugurated in 1990 and 1991, respectively
LA FÀBRICA AND LA NAU BUILDINGS
Yesterday: The textile factory of Ca l’Aranyó, which consisted of a main building and an annexed warehouse, opened in 1870 and was in operation until 1986
Today: The harmonious combination of rehabilitated spaces and new buildings resulted in the Poblenou campus, first opened in 2009
