Echevarría, Laporte i Tàpies, first UPF Honour Award winners

On 29 October, Pompeu Fabra University’s first Honour Awards were presented, a distinction awarded to people or institutions that stand out for their collaboration with UPF or, in general, for their contribution to the world of teaching, scientific research, art or culture.

The first people to receive it were Juan Echevarría, president of the UPF Board of Trustees (1990-1997); Josep Laporte, who as minister of Education (1988-1992) and commissioner for Universities and Research of the Catalan Government (1992-1995) promoted the creation and establishment of UPF, and the painter Antoni Tàpies, creator of the Reflection Room at UPF, inaugurated in December 1996 at the Ciutadella campus.

The Honour Award is a bronze sculpture by Emili Armengol designed exclusively for UPF.
