The UPF promotes international mobility programs for the academic community as a tool for revaluing diversity and opening new perspectives to the creativity of students, faculty, and support staff.

The management of the various mobility initiatives inevitably involves the communication of personal data between the University and other institutions involved in the process. In some cases, this communication of data involves the transfer (export) of personal data to countries that do not have a legal protection framework comparable to that existing in the European Union.

The institutions with a personal data legal framework tantamount to UPF are:

  • Institutions based in one of the 27 European Union countries.
  • Instituions based in one of the 3 countries that with the precedent ones integrate the European Economic Area
    • Iceland
    • Norway
    • Liechtenstein
  • Institutions based in obe of the countries with an adequate protection level. (Except Japan)
    • Andorra
    • Argentina
    • Canada
    • Israel
    • New Zealand
    • Republic of Korea
    • Switzerland
    • United Kingdom
    • Uruguay
    • (Check the full list for additional microestates)

In other case Pompeu Fabra University, at the time of establishing the relationship with the entities with which there are exchange programs, always tries to include guarantees that the personal data of the members of its community who participate in exchange programs will be processed with a level of protection essentially equivalent to that guaranteed in the European Union. Unfortunately this is not always possible.

In those cases where it is not possible to sign a collaboration agreement with the collaborating entity that guarantees a level of protection essentially equivalent to that of the European Union, the University will inform the interested parties so that they can decide whether or not to participate in the resulting exchange programs.

Personal data processing operations related to mobility programs are included in personal data processing activities of Students, Teaching and research staff and Technical, management, administration and services staff respectively.

By applying to participate in an exchange program with an institution from a country that is not on the previous list, the applicant consents that their personal data may be transferred by UPF to countries that do not have protection regulations aligned with those applicable in the European Union.
