Minor in Plurilingualism
Description
Languages are a means for accessing different cultural milieus which actively interact creating a richer and more integrated pluricultural competence. They improve how we relate to and understand the world. Knowing languages opens doors to the future, enhances a student's education and increases their employment potential.
Recognising UPF student's efforts and dedication in foreign language training during their time at the University, above and beyond what is required by their core studies, is the aim of this Minor in Plurilingualism, which, ultimately, aims to increase a student's mastery of two or more foreign languages. The plurilingual approach emphasises the development of a communicative competence to which all linguistic knowledge and experience can contribute and in which languages interrelate and interact with one another.
Target
Students at UPF centres, students on the UPF Open Bachelor’s Degree programme and UPF graduates enrolled in the UPF Alumni programme.
Characteristics
You need to have studied a minimum of two languages at UPF, other than your native language(s).
Out of the total number of credits that make up the minor, only a maximum of 12 credits can also form part of the student's academic transcript. These credits will be classified as FTLE or RAC credits, depending on the activity.
The training activities mantain the value in credits of the original activity. For courses from Idiomes UPF and the Campus Plurilingüe the value of the courses needs to be considered in accordance with Annex 1 of the "Regulations for the academic recognition in credits for language learning on bachelor degree programmes" (agreement of the Board of Governors on 26 January 2009, modified as agreed by the Board of Governors on 11 March and 6 May 2015 and 21 February, 30 May and 4 July 2018).
Subjects or training activities that form part of the study programme that the student is enrolled on cannot be included in this minor.
When the applicant has studied the languages during secondary education, they will be taken into account from level B1.1 of the CEFR.
The same applies for activities that require a level of exigency lower than that which is required of the student for their official studies at UPF.
Training activities

6 credits/course (of more than 45 face-to-face hours) 3 credits/courses (of up to 45 face-to-face hours) |
Courses in any of the languages and levels that make up the academic offer of UPF Languages will be taken into account, There must be no difference between the levels that can be used between student cohorts because the requirement to accredit level B2 of a third language is scrapped. As for the Catalan and Spanish courses, they will only be taken into account in the minimum in the cases that are included in the RAC Regulations of the UPF, with the incompatibilities that appear there for students of some UPF degrees.
