This minor provides a transdisciplinary training programme to students who wish to specialize in the study and creation of digital narratives and arts, covering such fields as interactive narrative, video games, transmedia storytelling and artistic production linked to new technologies.
It offers students an open, customizable course, through subjects from the bachelor’s degrees in Audiovisual Communication, Humanities, Computer Engineering, Journalism, and Advertising and Public Relations to specialize in the field of interactive digital communication.
The Computer Engineering subjects available are expected to attract not only students with a technical and scientific profile, but also from the fields of social sciences, communication and humanities.
Overall, the subjects of the minor cover the following three areas of training:
1) Theory and general principles of digital culture, digital narrative, contemporary art and humanities
2) Design and script of interactive digital media works
3) Technology, programming and implementation of projects.
The minor in Digital Narrative and Creation is a commitment to encourage classroom interrelations between the students of communication, technology, social sciences and humanities, with the aim of promoting bachelor's degree final projects (TFG) formed by interdisciplinary teams of students from UPF.
Students of UPF centres and UPF graduates enrolled in the UPF Alumni programme.
To obtain the degree, the student must complete a minimum of 20 ECTS credits.
Students may not include in the minor any subjects that are part of their study plan.
Of the total number of credits that make up the minor, only a maximum of 10 credits may be taken as part of their academic record of the official degree at UPF, either as free elective cross-disciplinary training or as RAC credits, depending on the activity.
The course timetables and the classrooms where the classes are taught will be established by the studies responsible for the training activity in question. The subjects are taught in the language stipulated in the syllabus or programme of the proposed activity.
The range of subjects offered is divided into three different training areas, mentioned above. While various subjects are, in fact, cross-disciplinary to these areas, in the minor programme (see table below) each one is assigned to a specific ‘training area’: (1) theory and general principles; (2) script and design; (3) technology, programming, implementation. To be awarded the qualification, subjects in at least two different ‘training areas’ must be completed (they cannot all be from the same area).
