Structure and Syllabus

The syllabus is obtained by passing a minimum of 60 ECTS that can be taken full-time (1 academic year) or part-time (2 academic years). The credits are distributed as follows:

  • 20 ECTS corresponding to four compulsory subjects
  • 25 ECTS to be chosen among the optional subjects
  • 15 ECTS corresponding to the compulsory Final Master Project

If you choose to take the master's degree part-time, the distribution of subjects is as follows:

First year:

  • 3 compulsory subjects: Introduction to Compared Literature, Theory of Arts, Introduction to Contemporary Thought (15 ECTS)
  • 3 optional subjects (15 ECTS)

Second year:

  • 1 compulsory subject: Introduction to Doctoral Research (5 ECTS)
  • 2 optional subjects (10 ECTS)
  • Final Master Project (15 ECTS)

The evaluation of the MECLAP subjects combines a formative dimension through continuous assessment (active participation in class, coursework, outlines, presentations, seminars, etc.) and a final evaluation through a final paper, or an exam, or both. The participation in class debates are part of the evaluation.

In any case, the Course Plans (PDA) specify the evaluation procedures and criteria. The lecturer determines, according to their own judgement and the subject characteristics, the continuous or final assessment methods.

Obtaining the degree depends on the making and public defence of the Master's Degree Final Project. An assessment board, appointed by the master's department comission, is responsible for the evaluation of the project. The reslut of this evaluation has academic effects for students that want to apply for the Humanities PhD.

MECLAP students have a double tutorial system. They have a "host" tutor that can help them with any question or orientation request during the whole academic year. Furthermore, while they settle on the object of study of their Master's Degree Final Project (MDFP), they can ask for a tutor from the teaching staff that they consider appropriate for the tutorship and academic management of their MDFP.

FORMA is an online journal created and managed by students of the Master in Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Thought and from the Humanities PhD of the Pompeu Fabra University, and linked to the Institute of Culture and to the Humanities Department of this university.

Thought as a debate, analysis and reflection field, this journals aims to be a meeting space for postgraduate students through the publishing of projects that are byproducts of the research developed throughout their academic training.

The Humanities postgraduate programs of the Pompeu Fabra University are characterized by their transversal organization. That is why the FORMA journal grants a privilege to dialogues between disciplines and critical traditions.
