The Barcelona Institute of International Studies was created in 2004 as an institute for research and postgraduate teaching and is part of the UPF Campus of International Excellence. The Institute is also a centre of specialized academic excellence in the field of international studies, where both high quality research and postgraduate training are combined and complemented. The IBEI offers two master's degree programmes and two summer schools, as well as participating in an Erasmus Mundus programme.
