Surrounded by family, friends and colleagues, Dr. Figueras Maz presented her academic career before the tribunal made up of Dr. Miquel Rodrigo Alsina (president, Pompeu Fabra University), Dr. María Isabel Menéndez Menéndez (member, University of Burgos), Dr. Jaume Guillamet Lloveras (member, Pompeu Fabra University), Dr. María Rosa Franque Calvet (member, Autonomous University of Barcelona) and Dr. Mireia Trenchs Parera (secretary, Pompeu Fabra University).

Dr. Figueras Maz gave a presentation with three blocks: academic curriculum, teaching project and research project. Not without first mentioning the hidden CV or shadow CV, not so much from the assessment of academic “failures” as is usual, but from the gender perspective. She recognized the impact of the private sphere and unpaid work on the public sphere and academic career. In particular, she talked about the double workday, where motherhood and caring for her parents occur in parallel to her academic career. And upon recognizing this, she mentioned how women are disappearing from the university as they go up the hierarchical scale, only 22.5% of the full professors are women (according to Data and Figures from the Spanish University System, 2021). In turn, she thanked the teamwork and all the colleagues who made it possible for her to advance to this point in her academic career, who also appear in her hidden resume.

In her academic resume she talked about 3 six-year periods of research, 4 sections of teaching (2,000 hours of teaching), 1 six-year period of knowledge transfer (the only one convened so far) and the 4 sections of management (the maximum possible). In addition, as coordinator of the JOVIS research group since 2017, she has been principal investigator (PI) of 4 European projects, PI of two national projects and PI of 1 regional project, among which stand out: SLYMS, EduMediaTest, SMOOTH, COMPRA, EducoGen , ActiFem, among others. Which has resulted in an H index 21.

However, Dr. Figueras Maz recognizes that “the little things are the ones that really reach citizens, they are not just big projects,” which is why much of her work as an academic has focused on the transfer of knowledge. In this way, her work as a researcher and teacher reaches society directly in different ways.

Regarding her teaching project, she presented the subject “Youth and Communication” of the Inter-University Master in Youth and Society, in which 6 Catalan public universities participate: The University of Girona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, the University of Lleida, the Pompeu Fabra University, and the Rovira i Virgili University.

To give an example of the dynamics and quality of the program, the academic spoke of a decalogue that is used to explore, recognize and promote media education in youth. With this, they seek to promote, among other things, critical analysis, institutional communication skills and participatory audiovisual methodologies.

Finally, as a research project, Dr. Ella presented EducoGen, a project that she coordinates together with Dr. Ariadna Fernández Planells (whom she co-directed her doctoral thesis) from the Polytechnic University of Valencia; project that draws from the SMOOTH and ActiFem projects. Being an ongoing project, she spoke of the design intent in Action-Participation Research, the recognition of situated knowledge and the importance of social return; as well as the limitations that the project has had to date.
