Arts and Humanities
The 1st and 2nd years' courses take place in the morning. The 3rd and 4th years' courses take place in the morning and some courses in the afternoon.
From September to June
240 ECTS
Catalan, Spanish and English (depending on the course). These studies include compulsory and optative courses with various curricular contents that are taken in English. Optionally, the student can become familiar with French, German or Latin.

Presentation
The bachelor’s degree in Humanities at Pompeu Fabra University provides an in-depth knowledge of cultures and societies through interdisciplinary and transversal training based on the main humanistic areas: art, history, literature and thought.
This broad knowledge of humanistic culture enables Humanities graduates to approach the past from a historical, social and cultural perspective, learn about the evolution of the essential ideas that have shaped Western civilization and become familiar with other
civilizations with which the West has dialogued. The bachelor’s degree in Humanities provides at the same time a solid background to better understand today’s world by interpreting the origin and scope of the complexity of contemporary society and its challenges by promoting – through professional reading, oral and written expression and the mastery of digital technologies – the historical awareness, cultural dialogue and critical spirit necessary to understand the most important phenomena of our time in the
light of our past and enriched by the knowledge of their context.
The transversal and connective look and the critical and reflective thinking of Humanities studies facilitate the acquisition of professional skills that are increasingly recognized in different work areas, both in the cultural world (publishing houses and
companies in the book sector, museums and heritage, cultural projects, libraries) as in the field of business, the field of teaching and that of communication and new technologies.

Objectives
Humanities studies offer transversality and multiculturalism. These are essemtial tools to become a versatile graduate, able to read the world with an opinion of their own, and, therefore, specifically prepared to adapt to the professional requirements of a dynamic and complex society.
These are the competences you'll have achieved at the end of your Humanities graduate training process:
- You will know the main episodes of historical and cultural humanity evolution.
- You will know the main artistic, literary, spiritual, philosophical and scientific works and movements of history.
- You will know and learn how to use the main linguistic and rethoric resources of Catalan and Spanish, as well as English.
- You will know the basic elements of geographic means, and of human society structures.
- Aprenderás a utilizar las herramientas digitales necesarias para la actividad académica y profesional en las humanidades.
- Conocerás el mundo laboral gracias a la posibilidad de hacer prácticas profesionales en empresas e instituciones de prestigio.
- Sabràs aplicar i adaptar els coneixements adquirits a situacions noves amb flexibilitat i creativitat.
- Comprenderás y sabrás interpretar de manera razonada y pertinente textos escritos, discursos orales (conferencias, debates, etc.) y otros documentos (imágenes, mapas, etc.) de carácter académico.
Competences
Every student, at the end of their education process, must be able to exercize the following competences:
- Understanding and interpreting reasonably and using written texts and oral speeches (conferences, debates, etc.) and other kind of documents (iamges, maps, etc.) of an academic nature.
- Be able to synthesize correctly and to integrate information that is contained in written text, oral speeches and visual documentation.
- Justify and reason one's opinions and defend them publicly, in front of an audience that's expert or inexperienced in that subject.
- Communicate properly in and oral or written context in Catalan and Spanish, as well as using English for academic uses in a satisfactory way.
- Become familiar with learning and using a secong foreign language.
- Using computer tools, with ther corresponding application, required for academic and professional activity in the field of humanities.
- Being able to work in teams, respecting each other's opinions in a pluralism and tolerance setting.
- Applying and adapting with flexibility and creativity knowledge acquired in new context and situations.
