Josep Fontana had a passion for books. Over the course of his life he assembled an extensive and magnificent library.

His collection includes not only books on history, but also on economics, literature, philosophy and many other topics.

Fontana bequeathed the more than 37,000 documents that made up his private library to Pompeu Fabra University, and they are now kept at the Biblioteca de l'Institut d'Història Jaume Vicens Vives.
