Services for the student
Library and IT
The Library and IT Service offers you a range of services to support your study and learning activities: document, laptop and audiovisual equipment loans; your subject’s recommended bibliography; support for the Aula Global; computer rooms; a wireless network; and many other services.
The Library/CRAI, which can be found on all three campuses, has long opening hours, from Monday to Sunday, and offers different spaces and facilities for finding information and for individual and group work.
To access or use the services, you just need your UPF card. You can go to any of the centres, regardless of the building where your subjects are taught. Use all the spaces, resources and services you have at your disposal to enhance your academic performance.
In the Library/CRAI, you will find places with desktop computers or, if you prefer, you can borrow a laptop. You will also find computer rooms in other areas of the campus. All computers are installed with Windows and many with Linux too.
Each time you use a computer you need to sign in. After starting up a computer, you will be asked for your username, which is the same as for the Campus Global, and your password.
To save your documents you can use the Google Drive space associated with your university email account. This is a personal space, where you can save data you need for your regular work; but you are not allowed to save copies of programmes or materials protected by copyright, unless they form part of a subject’s practical work.
Activities and university life
The SACU organize activities to make your stay in the University much more than an academic experience.
We offer cultural activities such as the Theatre Workshop, the Choir and the Chamber Orchestra. Sport activities such as college leagues, tournaments, directed activities, university competitions, in Catalonia and in Spain, and special discounts so you can use sports facilities.
We offer support and we encourage you to participate in the governing bodies, we collaborate with the Consell d'Estudiants of the UPF (CEUPF) and we promote the activities of the student associations.
We promote our own volunteering projects and also with collaboration with external entities.
We also offer and coordinate some support services as:
- High-level athletes support program
- Support to students with special needs
- Psychological Support Services (SAP)
Also, you can incorporate ECTS credits if you make some of this activities and pass the evaluation.
International mobility
The International Relations Service promotes and coordinates student mobility, as it believes this is an increasingly important learning experience for both academic purposes and life in general. All the UPF syllabuses allow mobility and for some of them it is even a requirement. So take advantage of the range of opportunities the UPF makes available to you!
Through the Mobility and Reception Office we are present on the Ciutadella campus (Jaume I building) and the Poblenou campus (Roc Boronat building) to provide you with advice and information on the opportunities open to you and what you need to do to take part in an mobility programme.
Places on offer across the world
You can also go on an exchange to other Spanish universities through the SICUE.
In summer, UPF also offers a service learning mobility programme for students who wish to put their knowledge into practice in a socially-committed project.
This increasingly broad and diversified offer of places has allowed a thousand to be allocated for the 2017-2018 academic year, many of them accompanied by a scholarship or financial aid. This means that almost 40% of UPF graduates leave with an international experience on their resumé.
Academic recognition
The different UPF centres and studies have sought to establish relations with prestigious universities so that you will be guaranteed to profit from your stay at another university as far as the syllabus is concerned. Both the mobility coordinator for your studies and the centre secretary can provide you with guidance.
From a strictly academic viewpoint, studying at another university enables you to do different courses from those you can do at UPF, get to know another university’s teaching system and improve your mastery of a foreign language. From a personal viewpoint, it gives you the chance to live in another society, develop an open mind to differences, get to know another country and make new friends and contacts. And, in the longer run, an experience of mobility will also open up many doors for you in your professional career.
Scholarships and grants
As a UPF student you will benefit from the Erasmus+ scholarships and aid programmes for mobility sponsored by Banco Santander and from those of the UPF-specific programme “Passport to the World”. In addition, the Agency for Administration of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) awards grants and loans for which you can apply. In short, the aim of all this is to ensure that cost should not be a barrier to your mobility, even though it may require a certain economic effort by you and your family.
We recommend you start thinking in your first year about spending some time elsewhere and that you prepare yourself for it, as we will require a good average grade on your academic record and proof of sufficient mastery of the language of the country or the language used in teaching at the university where you want to go.
For further information, check our studyabroad website and participate in the International Days that will be held during the first term of the academic year.

School insurance
- School insurance
- Optional accident insurance for UPF students
School Insurance
If you are a student below the age of 28 years old and you have an accident during your time at the University, or while carrying out an activity included within the culture, sports and leisure programme of UPF, remember that you are covered by school insurance, which entitles you to certain benefits.
What is it?
It is insurance cover which protects students under the age of 28, who are undertaking official courses of study starting from the third year of secondary education (ESO) until the end of postgraduate studies, in the form of medical attention and financial support in the event of illness, a school accident or family misfortune.
A school accident is considered to be any bodily injury which the student incurs while doing activities which are directly or indirectly related to student life (these must be curricular and not extracurricular activities), including sporting activities (if the student is representing the University); meetings; study trips, work experience trips and end-of-course trips or similar, as long as they have been organised or authorised by the University.
For further information about the benefits of school insurance, please go to the Social Security website.
Eligibility
- Spanish nationals or non-nationals who reside legally in Spain and who fulfill the following requirements:
- You must be under the age of 28 (if you turn 28 during the academic year, you will be covered for the entire year).
- You must have enrolled and paid the annual insurance fee.
- A minimum period of a year must have passed since you first enrolled in any of the educational centres covered by this insurance. This requirement does not apply to payments arising from school accidents or the loss of the main family wage earner, or for obstetric services.
- You must not be registered on the Social Security system as a worker or because you are unemployed (in this case you have to use your social security registration card).
What should I do in the event of an accident?
Students who have had an accident should go to:
- Collaborating or affiliated health centres (check the list of participating centres).
- Public health centres within the National Healthcare System.
- A private health centre (the student must pay the cost and later submit their documentation to the Social Security office (INSS), where they will be reimbursed the costs in accordance with the established rates; any possible difference will be the student’s responsibility).
- If, because of the seriousness of the accident, the student can not choose a partner health centre or collaborating centre, they can be attended to at any private health centre and pay the incurring fees. They can later ask to be reimbursed at the Social Security office (INSS), who will refund them in full.
Documentation required
- You should request a school insurance payment certificate from the Academic Management Service (SGA) for the current course (you must have paid the enrollment fee).
- School insurance application form, in which you have to complete the “Student’s personal details” and “Accident details” sections. You can also request this application form from the INSS (central Social Security office), the closest CAISS (local Social Security office) to your residential address or from the SGA itself.
- Once the SGA has filled in the part corresponding to the teaching centre, you must take this application form together with the payment certificate to the centre where you were taken care of as soon as possible.
Travel abroad
Trips organised for study purposes within Spain are covered by the school insurance.
When organised study trips involve going abroad it will be the responsibility of each student to request the health card for foreign travel from the Social Security office (INSS), bearing in mind these come under European Union legislation.
