On 23 November, the Col·legi Oficial de Metges de Barcelona (Barcelona Official Medical Council) delivered the professional excellence awards in order to distinguish doctors with an exemplary behaviour that highlight professional values in the field of medical care, research, education, bioethics and medical humanities, this latter being the field in which Baños was recognized.

Josep-Eladi Baños has been a lecturer at the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS) and at Pompeu Fabra University since 2002. Apart from his research and teaching activity, he is the author of several publications in the field of Medical History, Linguistics and Bioethics. These include Dolor y refranes. Una introducción a la paremiología algesiológica, 2001 (Pain and sayings. An introduction to algesiological paremiology), El dolor del lenguaje, 2001 (The pain of language), both with Elena Guardiola, and Historia de la terapéutica analgésica, 2006 (History of analgesic therapeutics), with Fèlix Bosch and Albert Cobos. He is also co-author, with Elena Guardiola, of the three volumes of Eponímia mèdica catalana (Catalan medical eponymy), a compilation of all the articles published since 1999 in the journal Annals of Medicine. Baños is editorial secretary of the Journal of Medicine and Movies, where he leads the literature and medicine section. Together with professors Albert Presas and Mariano Sentí, he coordinates the subject Biomedicine, Society and Culture on the PhD programme in Biomedicine offered by Pompeu Fabra University.
