The class of 2010 master's degree and doctorate course students graduate

The graduation ceremony for master's degree and doctorate courses at the UPF was held on 1 July. Flora de Pablo, a professor at the Center for Biological Investigation at the Spanish Research Council, gave the graduation lecture on "Stopping degeneration and regenerating tissues: biohealth challenges of the third millennium".

A la seva esquerra, Milagros Pérez Oliva, i a la dreta, Olga ValverdeThis year, 698 official master's degree students and 103 doctorate students at the UPF (801 in total) completed their courses, and a large proportion of these graduates in the class of 2010, accompanied by families and friends, took part in the fourth academic graduation ceremony for master's degrees and doctorates.

The international nature of the event, which was held on 1 July, at 8.00 pm, in the auditorium of the University's Ciutadella Campus , was highlighted by the fact that over half the participants (52%) came from 37 different countries outside Spain.

The ceremony was broadcast live over the Internet from the graduation ceremony website.

Josep Joan Moreso , rector of the UPF, opened the ceremony with a speech of welcome, and made way for Flora de Pablo, a professor at the Center for Biological Investigation at the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, who gave the graduation lecture on "Stopping degeneration and regenerating tissues: biohealth challenges of the third millennium".

Flora de Pablo impartint la lliçó de graduacióAfter a musical contribution by the tenor   Mariano Torcal, a lecturer at the UPF, accompanied on the piano by Akiko Nomoto, the new official master's degree and doctorate graduates came onto the stage to collect their commemorative diploma from the rector Josep Joan Moreso, from the vice-rector for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies, Olga Valverde, and the president UPF Board of Trustees Promotion Committee, Milagros Pérez Oliva.

A few words by one graduate, on behalf of the class of 2010, and a closing speech by the rector, were the final contributions to the event, which ended with the performance by the University Choir of the traditional university song "Gaudeamus igitur".

Of the various official master's degrees and doctorate courses programmes represented at the graduation ceremony, the graduates with the strongest presence were those from the master's degrees in Legal Sciences (with 34 graduates), Biomedical Research (26), Literary Creation (16) and Public Health and Research in Political Science (with 15 graduates each).
