Studying a degree in English is a distinguishing feature that provides students with greater skills and a clear international outlook

Hence next academic year, 2016-2017, the Polytechnic School will offer the three engineering degrees entirely in English, a pioneering initiative in the Catalan public universities.

The next academic year, 2016-2017, Pompeu Fabra University will be the first Catalan public University to offer the possibility to study three engineering degrees entirely in English.

As professor Enric Peig Olivé, director of the Polytechnic School (ESUP) explains, “at UPF Engineering we believe that studying a bachelor’s degree in English can be a selling point and add greater skills to the curriculum of the graduate, which will allow them to be better positioned to look for work and have a clear international projection”.

Thus, from the 2016-17 academic year the degrees in ICT Engineering by Pompeu Fabra University will have one group in each subject of the Curriculum in which all teaching (theory, practicals, seminars, exercises, exams) will be entirely in English.

Next year the school will be offering one first year group in English with 80 places, common to the degrees in Engineering in Computer Sciences, Telecommunications Networks Engineering and Audiovisual Systems Engineering. To access this group students must apply in writing at the time of formalizing their enrolment. In the event that there are more applications than places available, they will be awarded according to the grade of admission to the studies.

There are no compulsory requirements and neither will there be a level test to rule out students asking to access the English group. However, students are recommended to have a level equivalent to B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (approximately equivalent to First Certificate in English).

Once the course starts, students will have to remain in the English group for all subjects up to the end of the term. It will only be possible to change to the Catalan and Spanish groups in the following terms.
