Students of Pompeu Fabra University excel at obtaining grants for international mobility

Within the framework of the Mobint 2016-2017 programme, UPF students have the highest percentage of applications granted compared to those presented in the Catalan University System, and it is the second largest university in terms of the number of grants awarded, only behind the UPC.

The Mobint 2016-2017 international mobility grant programme, promoted by the Agency for Management of University and Research Grants  (AGAUR), has awarded 360 scholarships to UPF students out of a total of 1933 grants in the entire Catalan University System (CUS). This figure is pending a possible redistribution of grants of other programmes, which could add 100 new beneficiaries.

The students of UPF have the highest percentage of applications (40%) granted in the CUS, with respect to those applied for, above the average for the call (33%). Thus, the 360 scholarships granted to UPF students was out of a total of 894 applications presented (virtually all students at the University with a mobility place apply for one).

According to Sara López, head of the International Relations Service at UPF, “another year the students of the University have really benefited from the call for the Mobint programme, not only because of the number of people that we send abroad, but also because of their academic quality and the effort to certify their language level”.

Pompeu Fabra students will receive 373,800 euros from the AGAUR, of the total of 1,981,600 euros granted. In absolute numbers, UPF comes second in the CUS, just behind the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), in the framework of a call which has seen an increase of 1,000 applications with respect to the previous edition.

Moreover, UPF continues to be the university of the CUS to obtain the most scholarships for mobility under a bilateral agreement outside Europe (within category B of the call), and which complements category A, aimed at students linked to the Erasmus programme. According to Sara López, “the commitment to establish selective agreements outside of Europe, especially with the United States, Canada and Asia Pacific, produces results and leads UPF to excel in quality mobility”.

The 2016 edition of MOBINT (the 2017-2018 edition is expected to come out in April) is aimed at students who have obtained a place on a recognized international mobility programme for the 2016-2017 academic year with the aim of contributing to financing the costs involved in studies abroad.

The grants, endowed with 200 euros per month up to a maximum of six months, in accordance with the length of stay, are aimed at students in Catalan universities with citizenships of any member state of the EU (or in the case of non-EU students, accrediting residence).

Participants must meet certain requirements concerning their average weighted mark in their academic transcript (5.70 for studies in the branches of engineering and architecture, and 6.30 for the rest), credits passed at the time of submitting the application (60), and sufficient knowledge of the vehicular teaching language at the centre of destination.
