A personalized document that must include the used methodology, the aims, the means, and a thesis development planning. As the doctoral thesis is being developed, it can also be used as the document that records the research results. This document is a responsibility of the doctoral student and will be part of the paperwork that the student has to hand in in order to be evaluated in the yearly evaluation od the History PhD Academic Committee.

Structure

The research plan must include the following sections. It is compulsory to fulfil these formal requirements, otherwise, the project will be sent back to the student without an evaluation:

  • Title
  • 100-150 words abstract: aims, interest and uniqueness of the scientific contribution.
  • Body of the project

1) Research problem or object of analysis. You should clearly state the topic to investigate.

2) Status about the problem / object of analysis. You should refer to the most recent knowledge in the literature of the phenomenon. It does not need to be a historical overview of the topic's origins.

3) Aims of the thesis. You should stipulate which unique contribution you are making to solve the research problem.

4) Hypotesis, assumptions or preconceptions that contribute to fulfilling your aims.

5) Methodology and work plan, with an estimate calendar (schedule).

6) Substantial bibliography, commenting on the most remarkable bibliographical references.

7) The issue of the project must follow the guidelines below:

  • Typewritten, 1.5 line spacing, Arial 11 or Times 12.
  • 56.000 to 112.000 characters including spaces (20-40 pages).
  • Sections must be numbered.
  • Pages must be numbered.
  • Bibliography, included at the end, alphabetically arranged by authors. 
  • Bibliographical quotations in the text must include the last name of the author and the year of publication. All quotations must be included in the bibliography.
  • All notes must be included as footnotes.
