The electoral programme of rector Jaume Casals featured the creation of the Pompeu Fabra Chair to highlight the University’s commitment to Catalan heritage, understood as a modern project of recognising what is natural and appropriate in an increasingly diverse and global world, and to give visibility to the activities carried out by Pompeu Fabra University in connection with the fostering of the Catalan language and culture, in both teaching and research.

The Pompeu Fabra Chair, created with the support of the UPF Board of Trustees, will heighten awareness of the resources used and the results obtained in relation to Catalan from the teaching viewpoint at UPF, and in this regard, promote action to encourage the use and the quality of the Catalan language at the University, and also participate in collective undertakings conducted through Catalan departments of other universities and other institutions that target Catalan language and culture. All this is in the context of a society that is at the same time local and global, and therefore Catalan and multilingual.

Furthermore, the Chair will schedule and promote activities related to the figure of Pompeu Fabra as a scientist and the fields he explored, and also his cultural and civic engagement.
