Short Biosketch

Astrid Escrig holds a PhD in Public Health, Social and Behavioural Health Sciences Division, from the University of Toronto (2020). She conducted her PhD in the field of migration and health, receiving a Collaborative Specialization in Global Health and an Advanced Training in Qualitative Health Research Methodology Certificate from the Centre for Critical Qualitative Health Research. During her studies, she also developed her research as a visiting scholar at the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico; as a researcher at the Global Migration and Health Initiative; and, as a research associate at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, where she still collaborates.

Astrid is currently a professor at the Mar Nursing School (ESIMar, UPF) where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and continues developing her research. Her interests lay at the intersection of the social determinants of health and health inequities, with a focus on mental and emotional health, as well as on the relation between family and health. She has researched extensively in the long-term care sector, in migration and health, and in gender inequity.

She has participated in national and international research projects and other dissemination and policy activities. She has also participated in the organisation of international conferences and been part of scientific committees.
