Although our research in Full-Body Interaction goes way back to 2001, the FuBIntLab was created in 2011 to explore the theoretical aspects of the potential of Full-Body Interaction as well as its practical applications. This research is based on current Embodied Cognition theories, principles from Developmental Psychology, and Physiological reactions. The application areas we focus on are Learning, Play & Playgrounds, Special Needs (Autism), Cultural Heritage, and Exergames. This research is undertaken from the standpoint of Interaction Design and Interactive Audiovisual Communication, focusing mainly on interaction for children and using mainly non-invasive Extended Realities (XR) technologies. The FuBIntLab is part of the "Technologies, Society, and Interactions (TESI)" Research Unit (2021 SGR 00930) of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies. The FuBIntLab is also the Barcelona Node of the European Media and Immersion Laboratory, the only EU-funded center for eXtended Reality (XR). The Lab is also member of the Innovation and Research network on Mental health and technology (Xarxa TECSAM). The lab has facilities structured in two main spaces: a 7x10 m (21x30 feet) space for researcher’s work and a 7x16 m (21x48 feet) space for full-body interaction installations which include our Mixed Reality, full-body interactive space.
