Prospective Students
The AIML research group is actively involved in teaching activities both at the Master and PhD level.
Ph.D.
The group is always open to hear about strongly motivated students who could be interested in pursuing a PhD with us in any of the research areas that we are concerned with - if you fall into this category, do not hesitate to contact us. Please, include your transcripts, CV, and a research statement, in order to give us some idea of why you want to do the PhD with us. You should show some familiarity with our current research and possibly have some preliminary ideas about the research you would like to do with us. The PhD programme at the Engineering department provides more information to prospective students, including registration procedures and funding opportunities.

Research positions
The Department of Engineering at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona seeks doctoral applications for the current academic year from talented students with a strong interest in research.
Why Engineering-UPF?
UPF is ranked as the most productive university in Spain in research outcome and attraction of funds (THE2013) and 13th worldwide among young universities (THE2013, 100 under 50). DTIC-UPF community (> 50 nationalities) conducts research in a broad range of fields created around the convergence of ICT with computing science, networks, biomedical and cognitive sciences. The active participation in international programs (65 projects in FP7, including 9 prestigious ERC grants and the Human Brain Project) creates a unique environment for the development of talented researchers.
Master programmes
The research group coordinates two research-oriented Master's programmes:
- The Master in Intelligent and Interactive Systems (MIIS) (60 ECTS): The MIIS is a research-oriented Master of Science programme where students further develop their technical and interdisciplinary competencies in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning building on a preceding computer science bachelor's programme. The program qualifies graduates for research and development work in basic research or in industry.
- The Erasmus Mundus joint master in Artificial Intelligence (EMAI) (120 ECTS): The EMAI is a two-year Masters programme offered by four higher education institutions. EMAI students may choose among all consortium member universities and specialise in one of the four offered strands (Intelligent Decision Making in Spain, Robotics in Italy, Cybersecurity in the Netherlands, and Data Science in Slovenia).
