During the 2015-2016 academic year the Voluntariat Lingüístic has carried out the following activities:

 

Programme of tours and cultural activities

During the 2015-2016 academic year the Language Volunteering programme has scheduled a total of thirty-one tours and activities both in Barcelona and in the rest of Catalonia, with an attendance average of about thirty-five students per tour.

During the first term the schedule included eleven tours, eight of them around Barcelona -Roman and Medieval Barcelona, the Parliament of Catalonia, the Barcelona of 1714, Montjuïc, the Observatori Fabra + Carretera de les Aigües, the monastery of Pedralbes + Sarrià, the modernist site of the Hospital de Sant Pau, and a Catalan Christmas traditions tour- and the other three around the rest of Catalonia -Empúries + Girona, the monasteries of Sant Joan de les Abadesses and Ripoll, and a walk through the vineyards and a visit to a cellar in Penedès).

During the second term the VL offered a total of eleven tours, seven of them in Barcelona -Palau de la Generalitat, the Eixample, the film settings in Barcelona, visit to TV3 + Catalunya Ràdio, tour around the Barcelona of Picasso and Miró, visit to the National Library of Catalonia and the Institute for Catalan Studies, and end-of-term picnic + visit to the Turó de la Rovira, the Turó del Carmel and Park Güell-, three around the rest of Catalonia -visit to Montblanc and a local cellar + 'calçotada' in Barberà de la Conca, the roman and medieval Tarragona, and a visit to Figueres + the castle of Sant Ferran and the Dalí Museum), as well as a cultural and ski weekend in Andorra.

During the third term the schedule included nine tours, four of them in Barcelona -visit to Tibidabo, the tower of Collserola and the Vallvidrera reservoir; visit to the online newspaper Vilaweb and talk with its director; visit to the Gràcia district and the air-raid shelter in Plaça del Diamant, and visit of "the secrets of the Old City"- and the remaining five around Catalonia -a visit to Montserrat + climb up the Sant Jeroni peak, visit to Hostalric + 'pa amb tomàquet workshop', visit to Banyoles, Besalú and Girona, and visit to the monastery and the city of Sant Cugat del Vallès + end-of-term picnic, and visit to Sitges by ferry as the last activity of the year.

 

Language tandem programme

Within the language tandem programme, during the 2015-2016 academic year the Language Volunteering programme has matched a total of 420 language tandems: 217 in the first term, 111 in the second term and 92 in the third term. A total of 408 applications were received from Catalan students and 385 from international students, distributed in the three terms in the following way: 211 applications from Catalan students and 200 from international students during the first term; 97 applications from Catalan students and 96 from international students during the second term, and 100 applications from Catalan students and 89 from international students in the third term. Most applicants are undergraduate students, but there is also a number of graduate students and, in a lesser degree, also some applications from teaching and research staff and administrative staff.

Regarding international students, who were from 58 different nationalities, they have offered almost 40 different languages. 17% of the international students applied for Catalan only, while 24% applied for both Catalan and Spanish, and the remaining 59% applied for Spanish only. As far as Catalan students are concerned, the most requested language has been English, which appears in 80% of the applications; French, in 25%, and German, in 23%, followed, in a much smaller proportion, by many other languages.
