The Language Volunteering programme at Pompeu Fabra University is aimed at welcoming international students while at the same time fostering internationalization among Catalan students. It was created in the 2000-2001 academic year, and has since then been continously running.

The Language Volunteering's goal is to bring Catalonia, its language and its national reality closer to international students, while at the same time fostering the learning of languages and internationalization among Catalan students. The core idea of the programme is therefore to share our language and culture with students from outside Catalonia, while taking advantage of their stay at Pompeu Fabra University for us to get to know their respective languages and cultures better, in a mutually enriching exchange.

To achive this two-fold aim, the Language Volunteering is structured around two fields of activity: language tandems and cultural tours and activities.

Language tandems
At the beginning of each academic term there is an application deadline to apply for a language partner. International students can apply for Catalan and/or Spanish in exchange of their mother tongue or of any other language, as appropriate, they speak fluently enough, whereas Catalan students can apply for any other language in exchange of Catalan and/or Spanish. Please check the Language tandems section in this site to know all relevant details about the language tandem programme (how to apply, who can apply, which languages can be applied for...).

Tours and cultural activities
Throughout the academic year a range of cultural tours and activities are offered, both around Barcelona and in the rest of Catalonia, with the aim to give international students the chance to get to konw different places in Catalonia and to become familiar with different aspects of Catalan culture. Please check the Tours and cultural activities section in this site to know all relevant details about this part of the programme (how it works, who can join, how to enrol, which is the activity schedule at a given moment...).
