During the 2014-2015 academic year the Voluntariat Lingüístic has carried out the following activities:

 

Programme of tours and cultural activities

During the 2014-2015 academic year the Language Volunteering programme has scheduled a total of thirty-four tours and activities both in Barcelona and in the rest of Catalonia, with an attendance average of about thirty-five students per tour.

During the first term the schedule included twelve tours, nine of them around Barcelona (Park Güell, the Barcelona of 1714, the gothic quarter, the ​​Parliament of Catalonia, an attendance to a Castellers de Barcelona rehearsal, the Eixample district, TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, Sarrià and Pedralbes monastery, and a Catalan Christmas traditions tour) and the other three around the rest of Catalonia (Tossa de Mar, Girona and Hostalric).

During the second term the VL offered twelve tours, eight of them in Barcelona (Palau de la Generalitat, the National Library of Catalonia and the Institute for Catalan Studies, around film settings in the city, Picasso's and Miró's Barcelona, Montjuïc, the Observatori Fabra, a Castellers de la UPF rehearsal and historical women's Barcelona) and three around the rest of Catalonia (a 'calçotada' and a visit to a local cellar in Barberà de la Conca, a tour around Manresa and a visit to Figueres, the Sant Ferran Castle and the Dalí Museum), as well as a touristic and ski weekend in Andorra.

During the third term the schedule included ten tours, five of them in Barcelona (the Collserola tower and the Tibidabo, the Raval quarter, the Gràcia district, the Barcelona City Council and the Turó de la Rovira) and the remaining five around Catalonia (a visit to Montserrat and a trekking to Sant Jeroni, a visit to the Sant Joan de les Abadesses and Ripoll monasteries, a visit to Besalú, Banyoles and Girona, on the occasion of the festival 'Girona Temps de Flors', a visit to Tarragona and an outing to Vall de Núria, in the Pyrenees).

 

Language tandem programme

During the 2014-2015 academic year the Language Volunteering programme has matched 432 language tandems (almost a 20% more than during the last academic year): 210 in the first term, 148 in the second term and 74 in the third term. 554 applications were received from local students and 449 from international students, i.e. more than a thousand applications. During the first term, 274 Catalan and 222 international students applied for a tandem; in the second term, we have received 169 applications from local students and 151 from international students and finally, in the third term 111 Catalan students and 76 international students applied for a tandem. Most applicants are undergraduate students, but many graduate students have also been involved.

International students, from 57 different nationalities and who have offered almost 40 different languages, about 15% of them applied for Catalan only, about 25% applied for both Catalan and Spanish, and the reamining 60% applied for Spanish only. As far as Catalan students are concerned, the most requested language has been English (invlolved in almost 67% of applications), followed by German (in the 12% of applications) and by French (10%), followed by a certain amount of other langauges, which account for the remaining 11%.
