During the 2001-2002 academic year, the second one since it was created, the Language Voluntariate has taken a big step forward in relation to past year, both in terms of virtual and physical presence and in terms of number of participants and number of initiatives and activities carried out. So, the presence of the Language Voluntariate in the campus of Universitat Pompeu Fabra has been reinforced by the implementation of a specific web page in Catalan, Spanish and English; by the launching, in October 2001, of the campaign "Ja ets membre del Voluntariat Lingüístic?" ["Are you already a member of the Language Voluntariate?"], aimed at local students; by the celebration of the great welcoming party, in October 2001, and by a volunteers’ dinner in May, and by the presentation of the Language Voluntariate in the framework of the welcoming sessions aimed the exchange students, organised by the International Relations Office and held in September 2001 and January 2002.

These actions have also meant a more than significant increase in the number of volunteers enrolled: over one hundred, including undergraduate students of almost every degree, postgraduate students, and administration and services staff. A direct consequence of this increase in the number of participants in the programme has been a more than remarkable increase in the number of activities put forward and organised by the language volunteers themselves, with the support of the University; thus, some thirty activities have been organised, among which it is worth citing several outings to the cinema to watch films in original version, a guided tour through Roman and medieval Tarragona, two tapas tours in old Barcelona, two visits to Girona and Dalí museum in Figueres, a typical calçotada in a cottage in central Catalonia, a ski week-end in Andorra, attendance to the traditional Festa dels Foguerons de Sa Pobla, held every year in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, or attendance to watch live the night show Set de nit, at the Catalan Television studios, among many other activities which share the goal of fostering the integration of foreign students into Catalan language, culture and society.

Another outstanding activity organised this year has been the launching, in the framework of the Language Voluntariate, of a conversation exchange programme, which has been very well received and which at the end of the year included over eighty students offering Catalan, and mostly also Spanish, in exchange of up to thirteen different foreign languages: German, English, Arabic, Berber, French, Greek, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish and Chinese.
