The project welcomes students from two doctoral programs at Pompeu Fabra University, Doctorate in Humanities and Doctorate in Translation and Language Sciences, as well as Master students from the Department of Humanities and the Department of Translation and Language Sciences.

The following doctoral theses are carried out within the framework of the TRANSLINGUAM-UNI project:

  • MAHZA PAKHAD, Higher Education Management phD student from the Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU) in Teheran, Iran, carries out a five-month Erasmus stay (November 2022 to March 2023) under the supervision of Dr. Mireia Trenchs. During her stay Mahza Pakhad will investigate issues related to intercultural adaptation of university students in academic mobility in Catalonia.
  • Doctoral dissertation by SOCORRO IBÁÑEZ with a pre-doctoral contract (2019) who has begun her doctoral studies in 2020, with the tentative title Undergraduate Students' EFL Self-Concept at a Multilingual, Multicultural University. Thesis directors: Mireia Trenchs Parera. Thesis proyect defended on June 28th, 2021.
  • Doctoral dissertation by ANASTASIA KULYIAGINA, who has begun her PhD studies in 2020. Doctorate in Translation and Language Ciencies, UPF, with the tentative title Pragmatic strategies in the internationalised classroom: Exploring speech act production in computer-mediated communication. Thesis director: Ariadna Sánchez Hernández. Thesis project defended on May 19th, 2021.
  • Doctoral dissertation by ANDREA RUIZ, who has begun her PhD studies in 2020. Doctorate in Translation and Language Ciencies, UPF. Thesis director: Angels Oliva. 
  • Doctoral dissertation by NENGJING REN, who has begun her PhD studies in 2020. Doctorate in Translation and Language Ciencies, UPF, with the title L1 Chinese multilingual adult migrants in Catalonia: Language choices, attitudes and emotions. Thesis directors: Carmen Pérez Vidal and Mireia Trenchs Parera. Thesis project defended on May 21st, 2021. 
  • Doctoral dissertation by MARIA VRBAN, who has begun her PhD studies in 2021. Doctorate in Translation and Language Ciences, UPF, with the title Task complexity and noticing as catalysts of multilingual EFL adolescents' gains in written production skills: an exploratory study. Thesis director: Carmen Pérez Vidal.

ANDREANA PASTENA defended her PhD dissertation The development of transcultural competence in a multicultural and multilingual university classroom: A case study from a social interaction perspective. April 8th, 2022receiving the highest distinction of Cum Laude. July 14th, 2021. Ph D in Humanities, UPF. Directed by: Mireia Trenchs Parera.

YORDANKA CHIMEVA defended her Ph D dissertation Negotiating Interactions and Addressing Communication Breakdowns in Foreign Language Telecollaborative Projects through Videoconferencing, receiving the highest distinction of Cum Laude. CELIA ESQUERRA LOBATO defended her PhD dissertation Trayectorias de identidad académica en el contexto del trabajo por proyectos: un estudio de caso, receiving the highest distinction of Cum Laude. December 14th 2020. PhD in Humanities, UPF. Directed by: Mireia Trenchs Parera. 

HILTRUD AWAD defended her PhD dissertation  Exploring the Intercultural Competences of High School Students: A Case Study of Traditional Classrooms in a Minimal-Cultural-Gap Context. October 7th, 2019. PhD in Humanities, UPF. Directed by: Mireia Trenchs Parera. 

GOLNAZ MOTIEI defended her PhD dissertation  Learner perceptions of emotions in the foreign language classroom: a one-year study of the connections between anxiety, enjoyment, performance and individual differences in adult education.. Mayo 28, 2019. Ph D in Translation and Language Sciences. UPF. Directed by: ÀNGELS OLIVA.

MARGUERITE MORLAN, from New Mexico State University (USA), conducts a pre-doctoral study with funding from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program (March 1st - August 15, 2021). 

Training

GREILI-UPF and ALLENCAM research groups recommend and offer training added to UPF PhD programmes for the development of doctoral dissertations within the Translinguam-Uni Project.
