This authorization allows foreign nationals to leave and subsequently return to Spanish territory during the renewal period corresponding to their residence or study/research permit. With such authorization, you must return to Spain no more than 90 days after leaving. You may leave and return as often as necessary while it is valid.

 

Procedure

Documents required:

  • Application form EX-13 (in duplicate)
  • A full copy of your passport
  • A copy of your application for permit renewal
  • Documents showing that your journey is necessary and due to exceptional circumstances, if you are applying for a foreigner ID card (TIE).

All your documents must be translated into Spanish or a language with co-official status in the territory in which you make your application, and must have been legalized beforehand by the competent Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, unless they bear the Hague Convention apostille or are exempt from legalization under an international treaty (more information).

You will need to make an appointment.

Processing fee: €10,30 (payable once you have submitted your application).

Note:

According to the modifications introduced in the Schengen Borders Code, published on June 29th, 2013 in the Official Journal of the European Union, EU Regulation No. 610/2013, any Return Authorization issued by the Spanish authorities will only be valid for make your entry through the authorized Spanish Border Posts.

If the entrance to the Schengen Area is made through another border post than Spain, Return Authorization issued by the Spanish authorities will not be valid and entry requirements of the country where such entry is made must be fulfilled.
