This permit allows foreign nationals to remain in Spain for more than 90 days to carry out research or training activities.

Requirement

  • You must have sufficient economic resources for yourself and, if applicable, your family, to live on during your stay in Spain and to subsequently return to your country of origin. The stipulated monthly amounts are as follows:
    • For yourself: 100% (€532,51) of the public income index (IPREM), unless you can show that your accomodation for your entire stay has been paid for.
    • For your family: 75% (€399,38) of the IPREM for the first member of your family and 50% (€266,26) for all other members, unless you can show that your accomodation for your entire stay has been paid for.
  • You must have public or private health insurance with an insurance undertaking authorized to operate in Spain.
  • You must have been accepted to carry out research or training activities in a centre that is officially recognized in Spain.
  • The following requirements also apply in the case of research/training periods of over six months:
    • You must not have a criminal record in Spain or any other country in which you have lived in the last five years.
    • You must not have any disease that could seriously affect public health, in accordance with the 2005 International Health Regulations.

Procedure

  • You should start the administrative procedure by applying for the corresponding visa in your country of residence's Spanish consulate.
  • The duration of your permit will match that of your research/training activity, up to a maximum of one year.
  • You will need to apply for a foreigner ID card (TIE) within a month of arriving in Spain if you will be staying for more than six months. To that end, you will have to make an appointment.

Your family may accompany you during your stay. You may obtain authorization to carry out income-generating activities as an employee or on a self-employed basis, as long as they are compatible with your research/studies.
