What are the current tendencies in Catalan neology?

Termcat, the terminology center in Catalan, has published the book Creació terminològica: de Ramon Llull a les xarxes socials (2016), which includes the talk of the director of the Observatori de Neologia, Judit Freixa, about current trends in Catalan neology.

Judit Freixa divides her intervention into two parts: in the first one, after the emptying carried out from the Observatori de Neologia, she relates the neologic processes that nowadays are more relevant to the creation of Catalan denominations. In a second part, she compares the appearance of these neologisms in the Catalan and Spanish press and makes a rather disturbing deduction: many of the words created apparently by language-specific mechanisms (not borrowings) may be calques of Spanish, because many neologisms are documented in Catalan language many years later than in the neighboring language. Perhaps more in-depth analysis will need to be done in the future, before extracting definitive conclusions (such as seeing if Spanish does not use English at the same time, what other Romance languages do or if the root problem is not more than creation and transmission of knowledge than of neology). In any case, Judit Freixa ends with a positive message, also worthy of neologism: historically, Catalan language has 11 resilient state and, therefore, it is necessary to think that it will be able to adapt to external influences by survive.
