Biography

María-José Establés has a degree in Audiovisual Communication (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and two Masters in Journalism (UCM) and in Communication and Learning in the Digital Society (Universidad de Alcalá). She is working in her doctoral thesis at Pompeu Fabra University and is analyzing the different processes and strategies that are present in the professionalization of fans. This work is funded by the “Doctoral Training Grants 2015” programme of  the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. Her research on media literacy, journalism, and fandom has been published in various editorials and indexed journals (McGraw-Hill, Visión Libros, Editorial Fragua, journal Opción, journal Prisma Social and Léeme Libros). She has also been a visiting researcher at the Universities of Bournemouth (UK) and Jyväskylä (Finland).
