Technological treating of digital files (images and text) of ancient papyraceous documentation. RECERCAIXA 2014

In Barcelona, in the Archive of Historical Manuscripts of the Jesuits, there is a document collection written on papyrus coming from the Ancient Egypt that date from a period of time between 10th Century BC and AD 10th Century. A part that is especially hard to edit are the pieces that, because of mechanic destruction or because of fire (carbonized papyri), have had the original rolls or codex split.

The aim of our project is to digitally reconstruct the original documents by means of a technological investigation in programming of shapes and texture recognition that allows the reintegration of the pieces and studying the texts, that we hope to digitize and make available online, with their respective images, in their respective writing systems, that don't use our Latin alphabet.
