We are pleased to invite you to this conversation with University of Iceland professor Jón Karl Helgason next January 12 in the afternoon. Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807-1845) is one of the promoters and perhaps the best representative of Romanticism in Iceland, and the day he was born is celebrated every year as Icelandic Language Day. What happened to his remains (known as "the case of the bones"), turned into literature by Halldór Laxness or Milan Kundera, allows a historical and novelistic approach to cultural nationalism. Our guest Jón Karl Helgason published  this case study in National Poets, Cultural Saints: Canonization and Commemorative Cults of Writers in Europe, written with Marijan Dović, one of the best essays in comparative literary and cultural history in recent years.
