Writers, community and recognition in peninsular peripheral literatures, 1972-2022

English |  Català | Español |  Galego

The project "Writers, community and recognition in peninsular peripheral literatures, 1972-2022" (ES-CORE), PID2021-127226NB-I00, studies the social function that literature currently fulfils in those peripheral Hispanic cultures exhibiting their own language. We look at how it does so by investigating the place that certain writers occupy in collective imagination and by tracing literary commemoration as a symptom of this cultural dynamic.

"Du colloque à l’exposition rétrospective, du catalogue à l’édition exhumatrice, l’anniversaire est devenu la pierre d’angle de tout programme intellectuel", Pierre Nora

We seek to establish and to compare from what assumptions and with what expectations (and consequences) readers, society and administrations invest in the remembrance, monumentalization and commemoration of literary memory, while paying attention to the ways (and again with what consequences) in which some writers and not others end up being considered representative of their literature or their territory and likely to be celebrated or exported as elements of interest and modernity.

In short, we will study how, and for what purposes, literature in the 21st century continues to be a constitutive element of collective identities in the peninsula.
