Research Based Learning (RBL)
Pedagogical methodology in which the teacher incorporates the latest outcomes and breakthroughs from a particular research area to the subject curriculum.
How does it work?
This didactic approach aims to connect learning to research in a classroom context with the support of a teacher. It is compatible with other methodologies such as Project-based Learning and it makes use of the scientific method to generate knowledge. It aims to develop current research however specific or limited in scope it may be.
Phases or Stages:
- Identify problems or problematic situations which require research
- Structure the problem
- Theorise potential solutions
- Choose a methodology to investigate alternative solutions
- Generate evidence-based research
- Analyse information and data
- Use inductive thinking and hypothetical-deductive thinking
- Formulate inferences and conclusions through a research process with scientific rigour
- Come with teaching-learning methodologies. Video in which Oscar Camara, lecturer from the Department of Information and Communication Technologies, talks about Research-based Learning.
