Marta Garcia Balsas holds two Bachelor’s degrees in Translation and Interpreting (English, Arabic and Italian) and Journalism from the University of Murcia. She holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education Teaching (with a specialization in Spanish Language and Literature) from the University of Barcelona and multiple courses on SFL (Spanish as a Foreign Language) Teaching. She did an internship at University College Dublin (Ireland) and she has worked as an SFL teacher in private institutions. Since 2011, she collaborates with Instituto Cervantes in Rome and Milan as an official examiner of Diplomas de Español Lengua Extranjera (DELE). At the university level, she teaches Spanish Language in Translation and Interpreting Degree and she has participated in the Erasmus Mundus MULTIELE Master (2014) at Pompeu Fabra University. She currently holds a FI-AGAUR grant awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya to undertake doctoral studies in Translation and Language Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University. She is conducting her PhD studies on the development of intercultural competence in the SFL classroom led by Dr.Carmen López Ferrero and Dr. Olga Esteve Ruescas. Her research interests involve interculturality in education, foreign languages learning and teaching, discourse analysis, reflective teachers’ strategies, intercultural communication and multilingualism.
