La aplicación de la Carta de Derechos Fundamentales por los tribunales ordinarios: el derecho a la no discriminación, was the additional activity organized under the support of the Jean Monnet Chair in the academic year 2016-2017. It was the first of the three additional activities planned in the Jean Monnet Chair proposal. It was an event organized jointly by Prof. Alejandro Saiz Arnaiz, with the support of Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Jean Monnet Chair, the Center for Judicial Cooperation of the European University Institute (EUI) under the EU grant Actiones-Active Charter Training Through Interaction of National Experiences, and the Spanish School for Judicial Training (Escuela Judicial del Poder Judicial).
The event was organized as a Workshop and Training action addressed to practitioners: judges, prosecutors and lawyers. The aim of the event was to strengthen and facilitate the application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union to Spanish practitioners. During the Workshop the attendants explores the scope of application of the Charter, the relevance of the FRA, the available resource of the preliminary reference to the CJEU and focused their attention on non-discrimination issues and the relevance of the Charter in that field. After a competitive call and a serious selection, 23 practitioners attended the event.
"La Carta y el Convenio: la protección de los derechos fundamentales en Europa", was the additional activity organized under the support of the Jean Monnet Chair in the academic year 2017-2018. It was the second of the three additional activities planned in the Jean Monnet Chair proposal. It was an event organized jointly by Prof. Alejandro Saiz Arnaiz, with the support of Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Jean Monnet Chair, and the Research Group in Constitutional Law, European Law and Supranational Integration, funded by the Catalan Government.
The event was organized as a conference addressed to civil society: students and general public. The aim of the event was to disseminate the role of the Charter and the Convention in the protection human rights framework in Europe. The event was aimed to provided general and basic information to general society, in an understandable way, in order to clarify the interaction between all the bill of rights operating in Europe. The event was split into two parts and in total more than 200 people attended the event.
"Social Rights in the EMU. Beyond the Economic Crisis", was the additional activity organized under the support of the Jean Monnet Chair in the academic year 2018-2019. It was the third of the three additional activities planned in the Jean Monnet Chair proposal. The event was divided into two parts, one organized in 17-18 December 2018 and the other organized in 18-19 March 2019.
