The academic magazine "L’Atalante" has published its number 37, “Women and sport in audiovisual media: bodies, images, politics”, a monograph focused on the representation of women and sport, coordinated by Manuel Garin and María Aparisi. The publication arises as a result of the research project "Football and visual culture under Francoism: discourses of class, gender and national construction in cinema, newsreels and the press 1939-1975" of the CINEMA group. The issue has several collaborations written by members of the CINEMA group, such as Garin himself, but also Albert Elduque, Míriam Sánchez Manzano, Alan Salvadó Romero, Nuria Cancela, Ariadna Cordal or Laia Puig Fontrodona. The monograph explores both the visual references of the sport practiced by women and the first-person experiences of the athletes through the interviews of the sections Dialogues and (Dis)agreements. The articles propose both the analysis of contemporaneity and perspectives on the representation of women and sport throughout the twentieth century, in order to understand the precedents and novelties. Thus, the discourses that are established and analyzed in this monograph offer a complex look at the sports imaginary headed by women.
