Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Google temporarily activated a number of advanced features of its video conferencing tool, Google Meet. As of September, some are limited but new ones are available.

The new features, which will be gradually activated over the next few days, are:

  • Mosaic view for up to 49 people.
  • Possibility to add your own camera to the mosaic view.
  • Activation of moderation tools for the meeting creator (mute or expel attendees).
  • Possibility to blur your own background.
  • Integrated use of the Jamboard board.

Other features change from September 30 onwards and become more limited:

  • Videoconferencing of 100 participants (before 250)
  • Meeting recordings available for one month after recording. They cannot be downloaded.
  • Live streaming is not possible.
