Alba Milà-Garcia holds a PhD in Translation and Language Sciences by Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2017). Previously, she obtained her degree in Translation and Interpreting (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) and the Master’s in Training of Teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language (Universitat de Barcelona - Universitat Pompeu Fabra).

She focuses on two main research areas. On the one hand, pragmatics (especifically speech acts, politeness and face), conversation analysis and spoken corpora. On the other, neology. She is a member of the research groups Infolex, where she participates in projects such as the Neómetro, and she collaborates with the Observatori de Neologia with the digital resource Neolosfera. She has also participated in projects such as ECODAL (Evaluación de la competencia discursiva de aprendices adultos purilingües: detección de necesidades formativas y pautas para un aprendizaje autónomo).

She has taught at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, in both the Translation and Interpreting and the Applied Languages degrees, from the academic year 2013-2014. Her subjects include Editing and Proofreading, Catalan Language, Compared Use of Catalan and Spanish and TFG. She has also taught in the Master’s in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics and the Master’s on Discourse Studies. At the same time, she has also taught undergraduate and master’s courses at Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelonala, Universitat Jaume I, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya i Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. Finally, during the academic year 2022-2023 she was awarded the càtedra Marià Villangómez d’Estudis Catalans at Universität Leipzig.

In the professional context, she combines her research and teaching at UPF with a career as a translator, proofreader and typesetter. She works at Idiomes UPF as a language specialist since April 2023.
