Master in Political Philosophy

Why choose this program?

The main objective of the MA in Political Philosophy is to prepare researchers in this discipline, with the theoretical and methodological knowledge, and the critical and analytic attitude necessary to develop research at the highest international level and to participate in research teams providing a clear added value to the institutions or organizations in which they will be integrated.

Other objectives are:

  • To develop the necessary research competence to enter a PhD programme in Political Philosophy in the best international institutions with guaranteed success.
  • Prepare high-level researchers in the field of Political Philosophy and in the field of research of the Departments of Political and Social Sciences, Humanities and Law, and develop new lines of research within these Departments.
  • Acquire personal competences that improve the chances of the students to successfully integrate in the labour market.

Structure and Syllabus

 

The master's degree is obtained by passing a minimum of 60 ECTS distributed as follows:

  • 16 ECTS corresponding to four compulsory courses
  • 25 ECTS to be chosen among the elective courses: 
    • 15 ECTS from Political Theory and Philosophy
    • 10 ECTS from Philosophy and Social Sciences
  • 19 ECTS corresponding to the compulsory Final Master Project

Double Degree Programmes

 

  • Double degree with the University of Groningen. The DDM in Political Philosophy and PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) is a double degree programme jointly offered by the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) of Barcelona, in Spain, and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen (UG), in the Netherlands.
  • Double degree programme with the University of Warwick. The Department of Political and Social Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University and the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick offer students the possibility to take a double degree programme, studying one year in each university.
