Events

Performing the Lecture is a cycle of public events that brings together artists, scholars, and performers to plumb the creative potential of the lecture. The cycle is organised by project director Elizabeth Sarah Coles in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Aesthetics, Religion, and Contemporary Culture (CERCCA), the CCCB Centre for Contemporary Culture, the Barcelona Biennial of Thought, and the Institute of Culture (IUC), Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and funded by the European Commission. 

Performing the Lecture includes the performance of four experimental lectures, written by distinguished contemporary poets, dramaturgs, and scholars, and staged in collaboration with internationally recognised artists. Each lecture is followed by a public conversation exploring the idea of the lecture as performance and the potential for collaboration and exchange between artists and scholars in contemporary culture.

Lecture-performances include the European premiere of "Possessive Used as Drink (Me): A Lecture on Pronouns in the Form of Fifteen Sonnets" by the celebrated poet and classicist, Anne Carson, with live semi-improvised dance from the Barcelona-based collective, Odalipo.
