Keynote speech by Claudia Frontino on photojournalism

On 27 February, Claudia Frontino gave a public lecture on "Communicating Inequalities: Photography and Journalism for Change". The main message of the lecture was that journalism and photography are essential tools to explain what is happening in the world.

Claudia Frontino is a photographer and journalist. She has a degree in journalism from the UAB, a postgraduate degree in online media from the UOC and advanced studies in documentary photography and photojournalism at Fuga, Centro de Fotografía. Since 2015 she has been a contributor to the newspaper Ara, and since 2019 she has been a guide for schools at the World Press Photo exhibition in Barcelona. Since 2021 she has been a member of the Agència Talaia cooperative, where she works as a communicator, teacher, journalist and photographer.

In 2020 she won the Montserrat Roig Prize awarded by the Ajuntament de Barcelona, which enabled her to research the causes and consequences of female homelessness in the Catalan capital. She then published the report in the newspaper Ara and, as a result of her research, was awarded the Mila Prize for Gender Equality Journalism, the María Luz Morales Prize for Feminist Journalism and the Joan Gomis Memorial Prize for Solidarity Journalism.

Her research on female homelessness has also resulted in two photo exhibitions that have toured the city, including Espai Francesca Bonnemaison, Centre Cívic Pati Llimona and several libraries in Barcelona.

As a photojournalist, she has covered the work of Clowns Without Borders in Bosnia and Poland, and Médecins Sans Frontières' support for young people without families in Paris.
