On February 20 th , 2024, Ruth Montiel Arias, an artist and activist from Galicia, Spain, visited the Critical Animal and Media Studies course to present her work to the students.

Montiel is the author of three photography books (Ánima, 2023; 2%, 2021; and Bestiae, 2020) and has had numerous individual exhibitions and participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Spain and around the world. Her work is a dynamic fusion of creativity and advocacy, critically addressing animal rights through engaging visual narratives that challenge viewers to reconsider their relationship with non-human animals and advocate for ethical treatment and compassion.
