Giovanni Geraci

Welcome to my webpage!

I work at the intersection of AI/ML and wireless communications, with experience across standards, industrial R&D, and academia, including management of software development and research teams.

My expertise spans cellular (3GPP 5G/6G) and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11be/bn/bx) technologies. Current areas of focus include AI-native RAN, digital twins, Wi-Fi 9, and agentic AI for the telecom domain.

Industrial R&D & Standardization

  • Led a global software development team supporting Nokia's 3GPP AI radio standardization.
  • Ex Telefónica; led research on data-driven RAN optimization and generative AI for radio channel modeling.
  • Ex Bell Labs; developed multi-antenna wireless algorithms; core contributor to 5G/WLAN simulator.

Academic Leadership & Recognition

  • Tenured Professor; former Vice-Dean of Telecommunications Engineering; supervised 10+ researchers.
  • Principal investigator of 10+ externally funded research projects from competitive calls.
  • 100+ publications; two IEEE career awards; three IEEE best paper awards; three paper runner-up awards.
  • IEEE Distinguished Lecturer; 100+ keynotes and lectures; created IEEE course "Fundamentals of Wi-Fi".
  • Editor for three IEEE journals; on the organizing committee of 20+ IEEE conferences.

About Me

Born and raised in Sicily, I have lived across six continents for work, love, and adventure. I feel lucky every day and would probably do this job for free.
