Welcome to my webpage!

I am a Principal Research Scientist with Telefonica Research and an Associate Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, in Barcelona. My expertise lies in wireless communication technologies, both cellular (5G/6G) and unlicensed (Wi-Fi 7/8). I conduct research on radio access networks via mathematical tools, 3GPP system-level simulations, and data-driven optimization. Some highlights below.

— Co-author of 70+ IEEE articles with amazing mentors, colleagues, and students.
— Two publications in the IEEE ComSoc Best Readings, including one book.
— Two IEEE Best Paper Awards for pioneering work on UAV and non-terrestrial communications.
— IEEE ComSoc Outstanding Young Researcher Award for Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
— Ex Nokia Bell Labs, holder of 12 patent families.

Professional Service
— Distinguished Lecturer for both IEEE ComSoc and IEEE VTS.
— Formerly on the Editorial Board for IEEE TWC and IEEE COMML.
— Wireless Communications Symposium Chair at IEEE ICC and IEEE Globecom.
— Chair of 15+ other IEEE symposia, workshops, and industry fora.
— Expert referee for agencies in Europe, the US, and Asia.

Academia
— Head of Telecommunications Engineering at UPF Barcelona.
— Recipient of two of the most competitive research fellowships in Spain.
— Sole PI of multiple public and industry R&D projects.
— Teaching Signals & Systems both in-person and on YouTube (30,000+ views/year).
— My students write: “Fantastic way of teaching and close to the student”, “No matter what, he is there to help you”, “An amazing professor with a huge passion for his job”, etc.

Dissemination & Outreach
— 35+ keynotes, panels, and tutorials at the main IEEE conferences in wireless.
— 45+ invited lectures, e.g., at Ofcom, Ericsson, Huawei, Toshiba, the Saudi Space Commission, and many IEEE Chapters.
— Press coverage on 50+ outlets in 8 languages, three times on “La Vanguardia” (#1 newspaper in Catalonia).

About Me
— I like coffee, surprises, and living by the sea.
— Born and raised in Sicily, lived across 6 continents for work/love/adventure.
— I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world and would probably do this job for free.
