The project aims at exploring and defining methods to better understand how children construct meaning in Full-Body Interaction experiences and use this knowledge to inform design.
At a methodological level, the project is grounded on the claims of Participatory Design and is structured accordingly to a Design-Based Research approach. Its goals are to situate design in a close relationship to the users’ universes of meaning and improve it through successive iterations. For this purpose, we specifically explore techniques aimed at eliciting users’ embodied knowledge (to incorporate it in the design process) and approaches oriented toward better understand embodied meaning-making during in situ interactions with digital technologies.
In our research, we propose a structured co-design method to involve children in Full-Body Interaction design, the FUBImethod. Furthermore, we are exploring different co-design techniques to elicit users’ embodied knowledge and incorporate it in the design process.
