Research Position Open: Database and GIS Specialist

The ERC-funded project Digitalization for Environmental Justice and Biocultural Diversity (DIVERSE) is seeking a Research Support Staff position in Databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Role Overview
The selected candidate will play a central role in the development and implementation of the project’s data infrastructure and analytical framework. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Beatriz Rodríguez-Labajos, and an interdisciplinary research team, the candidate will contribute to global-scale data integration and spatial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain a relational database (PostgreSQL/PostGIS)
- Coordinate data integration across multiple research work packages
- Conduct global GIS and spatial analysis on digital divides
- Support data collection, including web-based and survey data
- Contribute to scientific publications and project dissemination
Requirements
- PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field
- Strong experience with SQL and PostgreSQL (PostGIS desirable)
- Proven skills in GIS and spatial data analysis
- Experience with R and/or Python
- Interest in environmental justice, political ecology, or related fields
Contract Details
- Location: Barcelona (UPF Ciutadella Campus)
- Duration: 2 years (extendable to 3)
- Start date: May 2026 (preferred)
- Salary: Approx. €36,000 gross/year
