The Department of Political and Social Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) is accepting applications for 3 PhD student positions for the ERC Consolidator Grant project DIVERSE – Digitalisation for Environmental Justice and Biocultural Diversity.

Research Scope

Each PhD candidate will:

• Conduct fieldwork in two case study regions (depending on the position: Africa–Europe, Americas, or Asia–Pacific)
• Apply qualitative methods including interviews, participant observation, and biographical research
• Contribute to comparative and multi-case analysis
• Participate in dissemination activities, including publications, conferences, and outreach

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have:

• A Master’s degree in social sciences or related disciplines
• Strong qualitative research skills
• Demonstrated interest in environmental justice, digitalisation, and grassroots initiatives
• Excellent English proficiency
• Willingness to conduct extended international fieldwork

Additional skills such as GIS, qualitative coding software, or experience with interdisciplinary research are considered an asset.
