Rafael R. Tranche, Professor of Audiovisual Communication at the Complutense University of Madrid and author of the main reference works on cinema and historical memory in Spain (NO-DO. El tiempo y la memoria, Cátedra, 2001; El pasado se lo destino. Propaganda y cine del bando nacional en la Guerra Civil, Cátedra, 2011), will give a lecture on the use of football iconography during the early Franco regime, analysing the links between photojournalistic images and documentary newsreels.

This activity is co-organised by the UPF's Master's Degree in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies, the CINENA Group and the research project Football and Visual Culture under Franco. Discourses of class, gender and national construction in cinema, press and newsreels 1939-1975 (PID2020-116277GA-I00), funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
